During the opening of the exhibition ‘Claiming the City - A Squatters’ Allegory,' theater maker Anna Podt takes us into the world of the women’s house in Amsterdam in the 1970s and all the radical lesbian-feminist movements that established themselves there.

At a time when queer and women’s rights seem to be moving backward rather than forward, and when many forms of activism take place online, she longs for gathering, for places of physical togetherness and activism. Drawing inspiration from the work of Mirka Farabegoli, Anna weaves a narrative about the women’s house, where activism and feminism are reclaiming a physical space. Following the performance, this will take concrete form in a protest march to the Heksennacht.

Starting from the Mariënburg Chapel, a protest march for safe streets for everyone—“The Nijmegen Witches’ Night”—will begin in sync with the opening of Claiming the City - A Squatters’ Allegory. The act of claiming buildings is extended to claiming the street. From the opening at POST, we will walk with all attendees toward the Heksennacht protest march and join it with our own signs and voices. These protest signs can be made at POST starting at 7:30 PM.
